Frequently Asked Questions
What is an FSA burn rate?
Your FSA burn rate is the amount of money you need to spend each day or week between now and your plan year deadline to avoid forfeiting funds. For example, if you have $1,000 at risk with 50 days remaining, your required burn rate is $20.00 per day or $140.00 per week.
How much of my FSA can I roll over into 2027?
For 2026 plan years rolling into 2027, the IRS carryover limit is $660 (per Revenue Procedure 2024-40). However, your employer must actively adopt this provision. If your employer provides a 2.5-month grace period instead, you have until March 15, 2027 to spend all remaining funds.
What happens if I miss my FSA deadline?
Any unspent balance exceeding your employer’s carryover limit ($660 max) is permanently forfeited back to your employer. According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI), nearly 48% of FSA account holders lose money each year, forfeiting an average of $441.
Can I spend my remaining FSA funds on Amazon or the FSA Store?
Yes. Online retailers like Amazon (using the FSA/HSA filter) and FSAStore.com accept FSA debit cards directly at checkout. Eligible everyday staples like sunscreen SPF 15+, first aid kits, contact lens supplies, and pain relievers can be ordered quickly before your deadline.
